We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Data Science team. We need someone with strong software engineering skills to build data visualizations and apply modern software development techniques. This will complement the team's already-strong statistical/mathematical skills.

About Us

At Displayr, our goal is to make it easier for everyone to discover and share the stories in their data. We have two products we’re proud of  – Q Research Software, the most advanced analysis tool designed for market researchers and Displayr, a revolutionary online data science, visualization and reporting platform.

We are a rapidly growing start-up. But don’t stress - unlike most start-ups that are 'rapidly growing', Displayr is built on the rock-solid foundation of our awesome products. The sales of Q and Displayr fund our (competitive) salaries, our (fun) team lunches and even more importantly -  allows us to keep growing safely. Our team of creative and hard-working employees has grown from 12 to 52 in the last four years.

About the Job

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Data Science team.  We need someone with strong software engineering skills to build data visualizations and apply modern software development techniques.  This will complement the team's already-strong statistical/mathematical skills.

  • Be a senior, contributing, technical member of the team.  This might be in visualizations (JavaScript + d3) or machine learning work.
  • Help the team improve processes, particularly with respect to fast, automated testing.
  • Advance the team’s understanding of best software development practices.  This requires adapting to the differences between your own software engineering experience, and what is needed to develop statistical algorithms in R.

Our Environment
  • Visualizations using TypeScript/JavaScript and the d3 library
  • R/Python for statistics
  • Debian/Ubuntu R servers
  • Continuous integration builds with unit tests
  • One-on-one code reviews
  • Source control (Git)
  • Agile (Scrum)
  • Flexible work hours (before/after core hours of 10.30am - 5pm)

About You
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science or equivalent with First Class Honours or Ph.D., or other evidence of exceptional ability
  • Passionate about engineering, quality and UX
  • Experience with at least two of:
  • Machine learning algorithms and packages; e.g., TensorFlow, CART, random forests
  • Compiling, building, configuring on UNIX; Debian packages; C++, Python
  • JavaScript, SVG, d3, visualizations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interested in data visualization

Benefits

Unlike at other companies, you won’t just be a cog in the machine. Every day you’ll be able to see the decisions you make have a tangible impact. You’ll be helping people who never dreamed they ‘could do’ data science.

But that’s not all. Along with a healthy compensation package (up to $180K depending on experience), we also offer share options in the business. While Displayr grows, you’ll grow too.

While we work hard and always push for awesome, our workplace culture is relaxed. Our converted warehouse head office in Glebe, Sydney is joined by offices in London, UK and Chicago, US. And we’re just getting started.

So, nice job! You’ve already picked the right start up.

We believe that a workplace that welcomes a variety of perspectives, experiences and backgrounds is important and will only push us to be better. We never discriminate on the basis of gender, age, ethnic background, disability status, religion, or sexual orientation
