Crosstabs - Automatic automation

Automatic automation (no code required)

Once you have created a set of crosstabs you can automatically refresh it with new data (e.g., a new clean data file, a new wave of a tracker). No need to write code. Displayr’s automation is automatic.

Best-in-class stat testing

Displayr automatically puts statistics tests on tables and crosstabs. Stat tests specifically designed for survey analysis, which deal with weights in the proper way. Stat testing can also be customized to your companies specifications.

PowerPoint automation

Export your crosstabs to PowerPoint as editable charts. You can even create your entire reporting deck in Displayr.

Displayr has made us so much faster. We can meet tight deadlines and deliver better insights without sacrificing work-life balance. My team and I can work normal hours again.

Crosstab FAQs

What is a crosstab?
A crosstab (short for “cross-tabulation”) is a table that shows the relationship between two or more variables, where rows represent one variable, and columns represent another. Representing the most fundamental aspect of market research reporting, crosstabs allow researchers to present results from a full group of respondents, as well as subgroups.
Crosstabs allow you to quickly identify patterns in data. By highlighting the frequency of combinations, you can start to see relationships between the variables that you might have otherwise missed.
A crosstab can be used anytime you need to look at the relationship between two or more categorical variables. This is particularly common in customer surveys, hence the relevance to market research.
Check out this crosstab from a survey on preferred cola brands. The columns represent different brands of cola, while the rows show the different age groups of respondents. This crosstab makes it easy to see age preferences for each cola brand.
A good crosstab is clear, concise, and easy to interpret. It should include relevant variables and follow a logical structure. It is also important to show percentages or totals where possible to highlight patterns. Being able to easily manipulate and format crosstabs allows users to better drill into the data.

Both pivot tables and crosstabs summarize data in a table format, but they serve slightly different purposes.

  • A pivot table is typically used in tools like Excel, allowing you to dynamically rearrange, filter, and summarize data based on different dimensions.
  • A crosstab, is specifically designed to show the relationship between categorical variables, focusing on counts and frquencies.

A Chi-square test is a statistical test used to check if there’s a significant relationship between two categorical variables. It compares the observed frequencies in a crosstab with the expected frequencies to determine if the differences are meaningful. A Chi-square test goes beyond the snapshot of a crosstab, by providing evidence to confirm if the relationship is significant.
